Open Access Policy

CLACSO, a network bringing together more than a thousand research centers, has been promoting open science in the Global South for nearly three decades. Rooted in a Latin American and Caribbean tradition that conceives of knowledge as a common good and a human right, the Council adopted non-commercial open access as a standard from the creation of its Virtual Library in 1998. Its institutional repository currently brings together more than 200,000 texts in the social sciences and humanities, available in open access and with millions of queries per year, built on an open technological infrastructure.

Within this framework, CLACSO regards Diamond Open Access — a model in which the academic community retains control of the editorial processes and no charges are applied to either authors or readers (APCs/BPCs) — as a political responsibility aimed at guaranteeing epistemic justice, bibliodiversity and multilingualism. Its publishing policy understands scientific communication from Latin America as part of a commitment to social transformation, and recognizes in university presses, scientific journals and repositories fundamental spaces for linking academic production with communities and with the historical processes of our region.

As CLACSO's scientific journal, Tramas y Redes positions its work in line with the principles of open science. This is an open-access journal, which means that all content is freely available to all users or their institutions. Users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without requesting prior permission from the publisher or the author. This journal does not charge any fee for processing the manuscripts it receives (No APC). This is in keeping with the definition set out by the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI).

In the conviction that culture and knowledge are a good belonging to everyone and for everyone, the journal will not charge authors any publication fee, and articles will be immediately available in open access. In addition, the transfer of non-exclusive rights also implies authorization by the authors for the work to be deposited in the CLACSO Network of Virtual Libraries and disseminated through the databases the publisher deems appropriate for its indexing, with a view to increasing the visibility of the publication and its authors.

Acceptance of the manuscript by the journal implies that it has not been simultaneously submitted to other journals or editorial bodies.

Authors retain the copyright of their texts at all times. Acceptance of the manuscript implies only the non-exclusive transfer of the economic rights necessary for the publisher to publish and distribute the work, allowing its reuse after editing (postprint) under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License. This license enables any user to share (copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format) and adapt (remix, transform and build upon the material) the articles, provided that: a) the authorship and the original source of publication (journal, publisher and URL of the work) are cited; b) it is not used for commercial purposes; c) the same license terms are maintained.
