Ethical Aspects
Tramas y Redes is the result of the collective work of authors, editors and reviewers committed to strengthening the social sciences and humanities for social and cultural development. The journal understands editorial ethics as a dimension that runs through the entire process of production, evaluation, publication, circulation and reuse of scientific knowledge.
The editorial team guides its work according to principles of responsibility, equity, integrity, rigor and transparency in the conduct of its policies, procedures and decisions. This implies acting with honesty, treating those who take part in the editorial process impartially, upholding appropriate standards of quality and documentation, and keeping the processes affecting authors, reviewers and readers visible and understandable. The journal is willing to review and correct its policies when necessary, in dialogue with internationally recognized good practices in scientific publication ethics.
Guiding Frameworks
As part of CLACSO's editorial project, Tramas y Redes adopts Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) as the ethical-political approach to its work. Every submission is evaluated on its intellectual content, without discrimination on the basis of the authors' ethnic or national background, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or philosophical, religious or political beliefs. The journal also seeks to recognize the diversity of trajectories, identities and institutional and regional contexts from which knowledge is produced in the social sciences and humanities, preventing criteria unrelated to the quality of the work from affecting its evaluation.
Tramas y Redes also aligns itself with the FAIR and CARE principles as frameworks guiding responsible management of knowledge and research data. It recognizes the FAIR principles — that research data and other inputs be findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable — as a desirable horizon for managing the information produced in the works it publishes, and encourages authors to share their research data in open repositories and to properly reference such availability in their articles. It also adheres to the CARE principles, which promote collective benefit, the authority of communities to make decisions about their data, the responsibility of those who conduct research, and ethics in the treatment of information concerning the knowledge, testimonies or data of Indigenous, peasant, Afro-descendant, popular or other research subject communities in an asymmetrical relationship with researchers.
Conflicts of Interest
A conflict of interest exists when a personal, academic, professional or economic relationship may influence, or appear to influence, the judgment of those involved in the evaluation or editorial management of a text. Authors, reviewers and members of the editorial team must promptly report any such situation. The editorial team will disregard evaluations in which it is found that a personal position or an undeclared conflict of interest has interfered with the judgment on the quality of the work, and will reassign the evaluation when appropriate.
Authorship and Responsibility for Contributions
Authorship status belongs to those who have made a substantial intellectual contribution to the work submitted and are able to take responsibility for its content. Submissions are expected to accurately identify all authors, and any change in authorship during the editorial process must be reported to and justified before the journal.
Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools
The use of generative artificial intelligence tools is an increasingly common part of research, review and editing work. In this context, Tramas y Redes is committed to the ethical and conscious use of AI in the editorial processes of the scientific community, adhering to the guidelines set out in the Declaration of Heredia (Costa Rica, January 2024) and the Decalogue for the Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence in Scientific and Academic Journals (CAICYT-CONICET, 2025), which recognizes AI as a useful tool but stresses that its integration must be accompanied by the transparency, traceability and ethical rigor proper to human work.
In this sense, Tramas y Redes allows the use of AI as support for specific tasks — such as copyediting, translation, text summarization or exploratory data analysis — but does not grant these tools authorship status, nor does it consider them citable primary sources, given that they lack legal responsibility and the capacity to be held accountable for the content generated.
Ethical, intellectual and legal responsibility for any text, evaluation or editorial decision always rests with the persons — authors, reviewers or members of the editorial team — involved in the process. Anyone who uses artificial intelligence at any stage of the preparation, evaluation or editing of a work must explicitly declare it, indicating at least the tool used and the task for which it was employed, and must carefully verify that the information generated is accurate, free of fabricated content, and does not reproduce biases, errors or unsupported claims. The use of these tools does not exempt anyone from safeguarding the confidentiality of materials under review or from respecting the intellectual property of third parties. Their use must be limited to auxiliary tasks and must not replace the critical analysis, interpretation of results or expert judgment that belongs to authors, reviewers and editors.
